Veteran Nigerian singer, Eldee The Don, has opened up about his role in shaping the early career of Grammy-winning artist Wizkid. In a recent appearance on the Adesope Live show, Eldee shared how he influenced Wizkid’s decision to pursue afrobeats.
According to Eldee, when Wizkid was signed to the EME record label by Banky W, the young artist was initially inclined toward reggae and dancehall music. However, Eldee advised him to embrace Nigerian musical influences, leading to the creation of afropop tracks.
"Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky W signed him before he dropped his first single, but I told him he has to find a middle ground and do something Nigerian with a lot of flavors in it," Eldee explained.
Following this advice, Wizkid transitioned to making afropop songs, with hits like "Don’t Dull" marking his breakthrough in the music industry. Eldee’s guidance played a key role in Wizkid’s evolution into one of the biggest names in global afrobeats.
