A call for urgent regulatory action has been made against the popular reality TV show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), as Nigerian activist lawyer, Maduabuchi Idam, formally petitions the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). In a strongly-worded letter addressed to the Director General of NBC, Idam demands the immediate ban or strict regulation of the show within 30 days, citing consistent violations of public morality. The petition, titled “Urgent need to ban or regulate the content of the television programme described as ‘Big Brother Naija’ for obscene, indecent, and profane content, pursuant to the NBC Act 1999”, accuses BBNaija of broadcasting explicit and pornographic content across national television and social media platforms.
