Massive Protest Disrupts Lagos Airport, FAAN Urges Passengers to Depart Early

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued an urgent travel advisory to all passengers travelling through the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos, following severe traffic congestion caused by a major protest.

According to FAAN, the disruption stems from a demonstration by a group of visually impaired individuals, who have blocked major access routes to the airport. The protest, which began earlier today, has resulted in heavy gridlock, long vehicle queues, and significant delays for road users.

Both local and international travellers are being affected, with some at risk of missing scheduled flights. FAAN has strongly advised passengers to adjust their travel plans and set out earlier than usual to avoid disruptions.

Security and traffic control teams have been deployed on-site to manage the situation and ease movement in and out of the airport. Authorities also confirmed they are engaging with the protesters in an effort to resolve the matter peacefully and restore normal operations.

The protest has drawn significant public attention, highlighting the challenges of balancing citizens’ right to peaceful demonstration with the need to maintain smooth airport operations. FAAN assured travellers that every effort is being made to minimize the impact on flight schedules and passenger experience.
