WAEC Disclaims Viral List of Withheld 2025 WASSCE Results

LAGOS, NIGERIA — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially disowned a document circulating on social media that claims to list secondary schools whose candidates had their 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results withheld due to alleged examination malpractice.

The viral list, which includes 151 schools, falsely alleges widespread malpractice and carries the forged signature of a supposed WAEC official named “Dr. Florence Ajayi,” identified as Director of Examination Malpractice and Irregularities.

WAEC, through its verified social media platform @waecnigeria, dismissed the document as entirely false, stating:

> “WAEC will never ask any centre to bring scripts of candidates to the office. Where would they get them from? Kindly ignore any message listing schools whose results were supposedly cancelled.”

The Council reiterated that no such list exists, and confirmed that it had not summoned any school principals to its Lagos Zonal Office, as was demanded in the forged letter.

Notable schools mentioned in the fake document include:

Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, Ikorodu

Atlantic Hall, Epe

Corona Secondary School, Agbara

Christ the King College, Onitsha

Stella Maris College, Abuja

Federal Government Girls’ College, Calabar

WAEC has urged the public to disregard the publication and seek accurate information only through official channels.

Update on Withheld Results

WAEC confirms that results for 192,089 candidates—representing 9.75% of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat for the May/June 2025 WASSCE—have been withheld pending investigation into alleged examination malpractice.

According to the Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, this year’s results showed a decline in performance, with only 38.32% of candidates obtaining five credits including English and Mathematics, compared to 72.12% in 2024.

The drop is attributed to WAEC's implementation of stricter anti-malpractice measures.

WAEC's Final Word

WAEC remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in its examinations. The Council strongly warns against the spread of misinformation and encourages all stakeholders—school authorities, candidates, and the general public—to rely solely on WAEC’s official communication platforms.
